Yogathon for Art for Empowerment:
Helping Local Artist Elisa Paloschi bring Art to the Marginalized Children of Mysore, India

At the first ever Yogathon for Art for Empowerment, a local artist’s vision will get some well-deserved funding and exposure.  Artist Elisa Paloschi, well-known in the Kingston community for her varied projects about India, including a documentary, “Radhamma’s Dream”, began a not-for-profit program to bring art to the marginalized women and children of Mysore, India.

Elisa Paloschi originally went to Mysore to study yoga.  She felt a strong desire to connect with the local people and to become involved with the community on a deeper level.  Elisa discovered a residential home/school just outside of the city for trafficked women and children, and she began to spend time each day volunteering within their arts programme. As Elisa began to engage with the residents, it quickly became evident that the women and girls wanted to share their dreams of the future, their fears and their stories of overcoming the experiences that brought them there.  The journey of how they arrived at a place of empowerment, confidence and positive self-identity has become the documentary Radhamma's Dream, and also has been the catalyst for Art for Empowerment.

The Yogathon will be a 24-hour community event focusing on art and yoga, two of Elisa’s passions.  During the Yogathon, there will be sun salutations for dollars, a silent auction featuring products and services from Kingston businesses, yoga workshops and live music, all in the spirit of fostering a connection, through both art and yoga, to the community of Mysore, India.

Everyone is welcome at this event, and can participate in any way, either through yoga, art, or simply attending the many activities.  The Yogathon is being held at Path Yoga on Barrie Street, and will begin at 10am on Saturday, November 10th and will conclude at 10am on Sunday, November 11th.
